A pterygium is defined as a growth of the clear, thin tissue that lays over the white part of the eye (conjunctiva). It is usually related to overexposure to sun and dusty, arid conditions. It isn’t normally a major problem until it begins to affect sight or becomes a discomfort. Many patients will have a pterygium removed for cosmetic reasons.

Another method is the no-stitch auto-graft. In this method the eye is numbed and the pterygium is removed. Afterwards, the normal conjunctiva tissue is attached in place with a state-of-the-art tissue adhesive. This allows for a quick recovery time without stitches. The eye will return to a normal appearance in about 2-3 weeks.
